COMIC STRIP ARTIST MIKE ROY'S MARK ON COMIC BOOKS !!!

Mike Roy got his start in comic books as an assistant to Bill Everett on Sub-Mariner back in the Golden Age and went on to work on Captain America.

Mike worked a lot in the field of comic strips, most notably to me, for The Saint. He went on to do The Saint in the comic books as well. Great television series with Roger Moore as Simon Templar and excellent series of novels written by Leslie Charteris.

During the Silver Age, Roy primarily worked for Gold Key. He also produced artwork for Warren, Dell & Archie Comics.

Mike drew a lot of great television tie-ins I enjoyed, Adam 12, I Spy (hopefully Hermes Press is following up on the collection), Man from U.N.C.L.E., Daniel Boone & Buck Rogers. Also, for Gold Key, he worked on Magnus, Brothers of the Spear (in Tarzan) and M.A.R.S. Patrol Total War (a comic book started by the late, great Wally Wood.)

Roy also adapted Mighty Mightor and Space Ghost, with Gold Key, for Hanna-Barbera, definately a couple of my favorite cartoons. Both Space Ghost & Mighty Mightor got their roots from the masterful Alex Toth.

For Warren, Mike worked on Creepy, Eerie & Vampirella. It never ceases to amaze me the scope of artists Warren procured to work on their titles.

Mike Roy's final work was a hardcover graphic novel, Screaming Eagle, published posthumously by Discovery Comics.

I hope that he is still remembered out there.

Live Large.

Thank you.
