Stranded on an alien world, Flash Gordon, Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov struggle against the evil emperor Ming the Merciless who seeks to enslave the entire planet of Mongo. Flash Gordon was originally created by the legendary Alex Raymond to compete with the popular Buck Rogers adventure comic strip.

In Whitman Comics Flash Gordon #29, an undercover operative infiltrated  the group in order to capture the most wanted man on Mongo. However, when she comes face to face with certain horrible death, will even Flash Gordon save the life of an agent of Ming the Merciless.

"The Deadly Depths, Part One"
Written by John Warner (Deadly Hands of Kung Fu) with art by Gene Fawcette (Seduction of the Innocent 3-D).
Ming gets word that Flash Gordon might be in the Cave Kingdom so he sends an agent to find out. Flash is off exploring the caverns when the agent catches up with him and pretends to be a messenger from Zarkov.

This issue was reprinted in Dark Horse Comics Flash Gordon Comic Book Archives Volume 5
The magnificent hardcover, complete with a slipcover, reprints Flash Gordon #28-37.

The movie adaptation (presented by Bruce Jones and Al Williamson) was also reprinted in a nice collection in trade paperback.
Something to look forward to in the near future, beginning with issue #31, is when we will encounter the comic book adaptation of the exciting Flash Gordon movie starring Sam Jones as the flamboyant nemesis of Ming the Merciless.
