Explorers in the Unknown was about the voyages of the Hunter I in the near future, like a test run for the Star Trek series. There's only three officers (including the ship's commander, Colonel Clark) in the Hunter I's personel.
The four page back-up series began in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #6 and ran through #15. Unfortunately, it has never been reprinted.

Continued from above! |
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #6 One of Our Astronauts is Missing!
"Manhunt in Space"
Only story done by the Giolitti Studio. Alberto provided artwork for a majority of the Gold Key Star Trek (#3-#39) comic books. I must admit though, I did like the design of the Hunter I.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #7 Probing the Dark, Mysterious Corners of Our Great Universe!
"The Demons of the Deep Space"
Nevio Zeccara would serve as artist for the first two issues of the Gold Key Star Trek comic book.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #8 Probe Solar System #5 Bring Back Specimens of Space Debris!
"The Hostile Asteroid"
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #9 Instruments Record the Approach to a Tiny, Mysterious Planet on the Fringe of the Milky Way Galaxy!
"The Graveyard of Space"
Not a novel idea, but still effective.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #10 The Secret to Planet Big Puzzle!
"Mystery of the Magnetized Planet Chapter II"
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #11 Escape Into Space!
"Mystery of the Magnetized Planet Chapter III: Uncertain Lift-Off"

"Prisoners of the "Jelly" Planet"
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #13 The Hunter I has Plummeted Into the Strangest of All Planets!
"Prisoners of the "Jelly" Planet Chapter II"
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #14 Trapped Within the Incredible Jelly Planet the Hunter I Seeks to Solve the Problem of Escape!
"Prisoners of the "Jelly" Planet Chapter III"
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea #15

The only story drawn by Jose Delbo.
It would be nice to see these stories collected.
Maybe time will tell.
Live Large My Friends!
