I was sorry The Owl only lasted two issues, even though both issues were written by Jerry (Superman, Spectre) Siegel with Tom (Time Tunnel, Lone Ranger) Gill artwork.
It was Batman, in the sixties, fun. I liked it!
In the The Owl #1, birds of a feather fight together. The Owl battles Birdman Bandits, a group of criminals who wear bird mask, call themselves by the names of birds, and, of course, commit bird themed crimes.

The Robot Owls! |
Owl Girl, Laura Holt (same named used in the Remington Steele TV series), was a different one from the 1940s version, handling most of the physical combat.
While in the The Owl #2, a year later, The Owl is wise to the monumental mischief of the Terror Twins. You'll view mod villains and gasp at gangsters! Snicker at the smooching and root for the robots! And be sure not to miss Owl Girl's footwear.
Then, in 1976, The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor #22 provided a crossover with the Owl.
The Owl Returns! |
Wow! I didn't see that one coming.
Literally! I missed that one until recently.
This time Don (Solomon Kane, Dagar) Glut & Jesse (Brothers of the Spear, Dagar) Santos handled the writing & artwork. It's interesting to see The Owl through the edgier Santos art.
There was a character profile of The Owl included in the comic book as well.
That was the last we saw of The Owl, until the recent Dynamite revival. Fear the shadows, The Owl has returned! Lost for 50 years in an ethereal limbo, the Owl has come back to find a violent and desperate world of strangers.
Live Large My Friends!
Thank You!
I have all of these except the modern one which I flipped thru and discovered sucks eggs as yet another "grim and gritty" "modernization."
ReplyDeleteAre you gonna cover Dell's weird and wild Dracula, Werewolf, and Frankenstein super hero comics?
