BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH'S CURSE OF 'THE WARLOCK TREE' !!!

Chamber of Darkness was a horror/fantasy anthology comic book, published by Marvel Comics, running  from 1969 to 1974. It featured work by creators such as writer-editor Stan Lee, writers Gerry Conway and Archie Goodwin and artists John Buscema, Johnny Craig, Jack Kirby, Tom Sutton, Barry Windsor-Smith (as Barry Smith) and Bernie Wrightson. Stories were generally hosted by either of the characters Digger, a gravedigger, or Headstone P. Gravely, in undertaker garb, or by one of the artists or writers.
By this time, Barry Smith was really developing into the artist we came to love on Conan the Barbarian!

Chamber of Darkness #3
"The Warlock Tree"
Dave scoffs at the legend of a tree, cursed by a dying warlock, until the curse strikes close to his heart.
Written by Gerry Conway (TV's Law & Order) with art by Barry (Windsor-) Smith (Opus 1 & 2) & Syd Shores (Captain America.)

Giant-Sized Chillers #3 also featured artwork by Alfredo Alcala, Gene Colan, Jack Kirby, Tom Sutton with a dynamite Ed Hannigan & Bernie Wrightson cover!

Reprinted in Giant-Sized Chillers #3. Chilling Ed Hannigan (Skull & Bones) inked by Bernie Wrightson (The Studio) cover! Also reprinted in this comic was a story, "Desert Scream!!", written by Allyn Brodsky (Iron Man), penciled by Jack Katz (The First Kingdom) & inked by Barry (Windsor-) Smith. That story was reprinted from Monsters on the Prowl #9

Helgenen #1, a comic out of Norway, also reprinted "The Warlock Tree." It sported a good looking cover featuring Roger Moore as The Saint. Alf Thorsjö provided the lovely painted cover.

After the eighth issue, the title changed to Monsters on the Prowl and the comic book became almost exclusively a reprint book.

Barry Windsor-Smith did many covers in The New Mutants series.

Thank You!

There were numerous reprints of this fantastic Robert E. Howard poem, "Cimmeria."
