WE HAVE CAPTAIN ATOM TO DEFEND OUR NATION !!!

Charlton Comics' Captain Atom alter ego was Captain Allen Adam. The character's origin had him  working as a technician in a special experimental rocket when it accidentally launched with him trapped inside. Adam was atomized when the rocket exploded while entering the upper atmosphere. However, he somehow gained superpowers that included the ability to reform his body safely on the ground. He was outfitted in a red and yellow costume (after a blue one in Space Adventures #33) that was designed to shield people from the radiation of his nuclear powers. When he powered up, his hair changed to a silverish-white.

A few years later, Charlton made a major move into superheroes, and brought Captain Atom back. His adventures were reprinted, starting in Strange Suspense Stories #75. A few months later, the reprints were swapped out for new stories and he took over the whole comic, again drawn by Steve Ditko, who by then had left Marvel.

The Captain Atom stories from Space Adventures #38 were reprinted in Space Adventures #11 & The Action Heroes Archives Volume 1. In the U.K. Weird Planets #17 reprinted "The Force Beyond."
