Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.
Classics Illustrated published a fantastic adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic science fiction novel War of the Worlds. It is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race.
In the novel, we have an unnamed narrator again, a philosophically inclined author, struggling to return to his wife while seeing the Martians invade and lay waste to the southern country outside London.
Classics Illustrated #124 The War of the Worlds
Written by Harry G. Miller with art by Lou (The Time Machine) Cameron. Lou Cameron painted an outstanding cover, one of my favorites from the Classics Illustrated series.
Also has a text article about H.G. Wells & another about the story of Orson Welles' awesome 1938 radio broadcast of "The War of the Worlds."
Marvel Classics Comic #14 War of the Worlds The Thrills and Excitement of the Original Classic -- in a Powerful Never-Before-Seen Comics Version!!
Chris Claremont more faithfully adapted the novel with strong artwork by Yong Montano & Dino Castrillo and sported a terrific Gil Kane cover.
A Dave Cockrum illustration of the Martians!
Acclaim/Valiant Classics Illustrated #60 War of the Worlds reprinted the Classics Illustrated #124 comic book.
Written by Harry G. Miller with art by Lou (The Time Machine) Cameron with a new Clem Robins painted cover.
Also contains a 17 page text article about War of the Worlds.
Eternity Comics provided an all new adaptation of War of the Worlds 6 issue series. It was written by Scott Finley with art by Brooks Hagen. I find the covers creepy. I understand it's more gritty, pushing the boundaries. Not sure how this fits in the War of the Worlds mythology, since I haven't read them, but Eternity did put out some good comic books.

Steve Spielberg's War of the Worlds remake! |
There has been two versions of the motion picture. The one I hold fondest is George Pal's War of the Worlds from the fifties. Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds from 2005 is a looser, but well played adaptation.
