The New Full-Length Action Adventure in Words and Pictures!
First in a Series of Daring Adventures Featuring Blackmark in the Primitive World of the Future!
Blackmark was conceived & illustrated by Gil (His Name is...Savage!) Kane with an artistic assist by Neal (Batman, Deadman.) Archie (Manhunter) Goodwin came in to write the dialogue.
The graphic novel tells the epic tale of Blackmark's rise to power, and the challenges he faces trying to unite a world, torn apart by a cataclysmic war and the following, ruthless, feudalism maintained by selfish lords and wandering bands of warriors, who maintain a stranglehold on the surviving population.
Blackmark is quite violent, often sexy, and even fun. Gil Kane draws on all sorts of Arthurian and German/Norse mythology, and his arena looks decidedly Roman, but it is all a metaphor with the graphic impact of Tolkein.
The first Blackmark book was reprinted in Savage Sword of Conan #1 - #4, reformatted, published in four parts.
A Ravaged World Faces Extinction and Only Blackmark can Save It! An All-New Graphic Novel Masterpiece.
Marvel Comics then reprinted the second Backmark book "The Mind Demons" in Marvel Preview #17, after a preview in issue #16.
The first chapter of "Blackmark "The Mind Demons" was published in Kull and the Barbarians #2.
Finally, the best of all was the Fantagraphics Books' Blackmark. It reprinted both books in one big, trade paperback edition.
