Gold Key's Captain Venture and the Land Beneath the Sea was a short lived comic book series written by Gaylord Du Bois with art by Dan Spiegle. Captain Venture began as a back-up feature in Space Family Robinson #6 - #36 featuring painted covers with back cover pin-ups.

Captain Rex Venture & Scotty MacKay are shipwrecked on an uncharted planet and the two issues are their adventures in the Land Beneath the Sea. Fantastic animals and cultures are encountered and the lives of beautiful princesses are saved.

Rip-Roaring comic book adventure in the style of some of the better TV Sci-Fi of the era. Dan Spiegle’s art pushes the overall quality of the book up a notch or two, but it’s certainly helped by the brilliant Gaylord DuBois with his script for the second issue.

Investigating a strange new world, Captain Venture and his co-pilot struggle to regain control when their ship is struck by a meteor. They crash into the sea but then surface into a lushly forested cavern -- illuminated by artificial light. Recognizing that they must rely on each other in a new way, they go onto a first-name basis for the duration.

"Fall Far...Fall Deep" 
In an original story, Rex and Scotty are forced to land their tiny space module on a volcano when it overheats. While exploring they fall into a bottomless pit but are saved when a side draft pulls them into a hole in the wall of the volcano and they land on giant mushrooms. They rescue a humanoid named Hera from strange creatures and she takes them home to meet her father Lucan, a scientist. Rex is leery of Hera for good reason as Lucan attempts to drug them so that he can experiment on them.
