JAZZY JACK SPARLING MARVELOUS COMIC BOOK ART!!!

John "Jack" Sparling was a favorite comic book artist of mine, primarily for his work on Pirana, Secret Six, Six Million Dollar Man, Valley of the Gwangi and Tiger Girl. I knew his work for various publishers such as Harvey, Charlton, Warren, Marvel, DC, Dell and Gold Key. It's like, who didn't he work for would be more like it.

With Harvey Comics, Jack worked on the Pirana and Bee-Man. Simple comics, but fun and entertaining.

Sparling drew Six Million Dollar Man (both the comic book and the magazine) and Bionic Woman tie-ins for Charlton Comics.

Jack's stint with Gold Key and Dell included Tiger Girl (co-created with Jerry Siegel,) Mission Impossible, Girl from U.N.C.L.E., T.H.E. Cat, Valley of the Gwangi, Dirty Dozen, Around the World Under the Sea, Jet Dream (in the Man from U.N.C.L.E. comic book.) Turok and the Outer Limits. This is where I am mainly familiar with him. He did a lot of movie and TV tie-ins, which wasn't as popular then.

While at DC Sparling drew Bomba, the Jungle Boy, a great original Secret Six (after Frank Springer's initial issues) series along with the fabulous Challengers of the Unknown.

 
When working at Marvel, he worked briefly on Captain America and the X-Men.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything personally about John "Jack" Sparling other than he was Canadian. He left a terrific body of work and will be well remembered for it.
